The appointment with the Christmas Concert is back, wanted and organized by the Opera della Primaziale Pisana with the contribution of the Pisa Foundation and the Ministry of Culture and which has reached its 18th edition this year.
On the program is the Magnificat for mezzo-soprano, choir and orchestra by the contemporary English composer John Rutter, written in 1990. Structured in seven movements, it is based on the traditional Latin liturgical text, interspersed with Of a Rose, a lovely Rose, an anonymous English poem from the 15th century that compares Mary to a rose. In the third movement, the beginning of the Sanctus is inserted after the mention of the sanctum nomen eius. The text of the doxology in the last movement is interspersed with the prayer Sancta Maria, succure miseris.
The children’s choir will conclude the concert with the performance of some traditional Christmas songs.
On the occasion of the concert, the public will have the opportunity to support, with a free donation, the solidarity project “Cittadella della Solidarietà”.
