This year the Christmas concert is a tribute to the Pisan composer Giovan Carlo Maria Clari.

Son of an artist, protected in his youth by the same Grand Prince Ferdinando di Toscana who supported Alessandro Scarlatti and encouraged the first steps of Georg Friedrich Händel, from 1724 to his death the composer was at the head of the chapel of the Cathedral of Pisa, to which he brought a dignity artistic.

Riccardo Donati, his successor as current maestro di cappella of the Cathedral, has transcribed in modern notation some autograph scores kept in the Music Fund of the Opera della Primaziale Pisana Archive, a vast and precious collection of manuscripts and prints that tells, from the seventeenth century to today, the important musical and liturgical tradition of the Cathedral through a rich and complex musical corpus of a sacred nature which, with its nearly 4,000 titles and over 1,000 composers, is one of the largest in Tuscany.

And Riccardo Donati himself conducts three of the pieces transcribed for performance in the Cathedral.
At the end of the concert, the children’s choir sings some traditional Christmas songs.
