In Venice, in the headquarters of the Biennale, Cà Giustinian, the project of Guicciardini & Magni architects, who in October 2019 oversaw the new setting up of the Opera del Duomo Museum in Pisa, was ranked first in the category “Opere di allestimento o di Interni” as part of the Festa dell’Architetto 2021.

The initiative is traditionally organised by the National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservators, with the aim of enhancing the culture of the project, the civil and social function of architecture.

The jury chaired by Jette Cathrin Hopp (Snøhetta Studio) evaluated about 400 works and awarded the group of designers Guicciardini & Magni Architects of Florence with the Special mention with the following motivation:

“The project receives the ‘mention’ for its great effectiveness in re-proposing significant historical evidence in a museographic setting that, with originality and innovation, stimulates and accompanies the visitor on a complete cognitive journey. In addition, the part of the conservative restoration of the museum also emerges in the realisation which, with rigor and balance, enhances not only the exhibited heritage, but also the host architectural context “.

To deliver the recognition to Arch. Marco Magni and Arch. Giuseppe Lo Presti, representing the Florentine studio, were the President of the jury Jette Cathrin Hopp, the President of the National Council of Architects, Francesco Miceli and the head of the Promotion of Architectural Culture Department, Alessandra Ferrari.

The exhibition path of the renovated museum is spread over 3000 square meters inside, and on a portion of the external portico. The 380 works are displayed into 26 sections. The museum exhibits absolute masterpieces of sculpture, works by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano, Tino di Camaino, Andrea Pisano, as well as sacred objects and furnishings, all proceeds from the monuments of the Piazza dei Miracoli and wisely enhanced by the new layout. The Museum has an auditorium, bookshop and a café-restaurant with a panoramic view of the Tower.
