Pisa-Malta International Conference of European Cathedrals
14th edition

The theme of this edition is Sacred Art Conservation as a vehicle of re-Evangelization.

EUROPEAN CATHEDRALS has built a solid reputation and a network of connections with the major cathedrals across Europe over the years.
2025 edition, in fact, is held in partnership with St. John’s Co-Cathedral, Malta, where the first step of the conference took place on May 8/9

Not only tangible heritage
In the Jubilee Year, our cathedrals are once again alive and eagerly preparing to welcome the countless “pilgrims of hope” who, in an unbroken stream, will join the many visitors seeking an unforgettable experience, whether fuelled by a thirst for knowledge or simple curiosity.
This moment offers a great opportunity to take a fresh new look at our religious cultural heritage – a constant epiphany that radiates beauty, meaning and allure. There is growing momentum behind the call to reconnect with the young, and to find a new way to communicate our cultural heritage. However, a syntax has been lost that must necessarily be reconstructed today.

Cathedrals are anything but ordinary buildings. They contain collections that are not just artistic masterpieces but also objects of devotion. Moreover, they are open to a flow of visitors who are not just the faithful, but not just tourists either.
A cathedral is ultimately a hybrid organism – one that, in both its daily operations and in its long-term prospects, needs to reconcile a wide variety of elements: values, sensibilities, instruments and innovation.
