"The square known all over the world as the Square of Miracles, with its stately proportions and perfect architecture, is the loftiest example of the Pisan Romanesque style, a harmonious combination of classic, early Christian, Lombard and Oriental features. The buildings that compose it, although built in different ages, retain an extremely elegant stylistic consistency. The Cathedral, the Leaning Tower, the Baptistery and the Cemetery are, as a whole, an allegory of human life, highlighting its most important events"

Proposed by ICOMOS as a candidate, in 1987 Piazza del Duomo di Pisa was added to the List of UNESCO World Heritage Centres.
