The winner of the competition Design of the sketch for the realisation of a commemorative medal for the 900th anniversary of the dedication of the Cathedral of Pisa was announced.

Among the 18 participants, the commission considered winning the artist Silvia Bargagna.

Born in Pisa on February 9th 1965, Silvia graduated with artistic graphic design techniques at the Istituto Statale Russoli di Pisa. After attending the first years of the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, she interrupted her studies to work as artistic director of an advertising graphic studio. In 1991 she began to cultivate her passion for sculpture and in particular for the bas-relief, making thousands of coins and medals, with her own projects or even internationally renowned artists. In the constant search for formal coining and finishing innovations, in her productions she prefers figurative representation with a modern and conceptual graphic setting, detaching herself from the rigidity of the classic medallistic iconography.
